The Library of Congress joins the Washington-area arts community in the international centennial celebration of Leonard Bernstein at 100 — a year of local, national, and worldwide events that pay tribute to this incomparable artist whose influence and impact on arts and culture in the U.S. and around the world have transcended genres and generations.

COOLIDGE AUDITORIUM
OrchKids: Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
Join us for a special afternoon concert presenting young players from the BSO’s impressive OrchKids project. Inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema, OrchKids is a year-round music program designed to create social change and nurture promising futures for youth in Baltimore City neighborhoods.

The OrchKids players will premiere a composition inspired by a visit to the Library’s 400,000-item Leonard Bernstein Collection. Their encounters with the composer’s scores, manuscripts and photos—plus several report cards and school essays from his teenage years—sparked an enthusiastic joint effort to create a fascinating new work reflecting Bernstein’s legacy.
