LA COUNTY PARKS CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF THE SAN DIMAS RAPTOR RESCUE

AMTV, San Dims, Jluy 10 – Today, The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation are holding the grand opening of the “County of Los Angeles San Dimas Raptor Rescue,” at the San Dimas Canyon Nature Center.

This facility will help address the critical need for wildlife care in the east portion of Los Angeles County. The center aims to rehabilitate 250 injured, sick or orphaned raptors, making a significant impact on the conservation of these majestic birds of prey.

The grand opening celebration will give the community an opportunity to learn about the vital work being done to rehabilitate and reintroduce injured or orphaned raptors back into their natural habitat. Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Fifth District, provided seed funding of $200,000 to establish the center and cover initial costs. This event will also mark the launch of the donor campaign to support the center.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation manages 183 parks. It also operates a network of 9 regional parks, 38 neighborhood parks, 20 community parks, 16 wildlife sanctuaries, 8 nature centers, 41 public swimming pools, more than 240 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, and the largest municipal golf system in the nation, consisting of 20 golf courses at 18 facilities.

The department also maintains four botanical centers: The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, the South Coast Botanic Garden, Descanso Gardens, and Virginia Robinson Gardens. The department also owns the iconic Hollywood Bowl, and the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, providing County residents with valuable entertainment and cultural resources.
