Southern California Community Hosts Fundraising Dinnerin Support of Sheriff Robert Luna’s Re-election Campaign
AMTV/LOS ANGELES, January 25, 2026, The community leaders in Southern California held a fundraising dinner on January 25 at the Hyatt Regency Hua Ta Restaurant to support the re-election campaign of Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna. Nearly 100 attendees from the political, business, and community sectors participated in the event, expressing strong recognition of Sheriff Luna’s leadership and achievements in public safety, law enforcement reform, and community engagement during his term.
The fundraising dinner was chaired by Lynda Lin, former Mayor of Monterey Park and Founding Chairman of the U.S. Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Association. Honorary chairs included U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu and California State Assemblymember Mike Fong. Former California State Assemblymember Mike Eng served as the event host.
In their remarks, Lynda Lin, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and Assemblymember Mike Fong commended Sheriff Luna for significantly improving public safety and service standards within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). They encouraged Los Angeles County voters to support Sheriff Luna’s bid for re-election to ensure continued stability and safety in local communities.
Congresswoman Judy Chu stated that she endorsed Sheriff Luna’s candidacy four years ago after learning of his distinguished record and strong reputation. She noted that under his leadership,
clearance rates have increased while use-of-force incidents have declined, demonstrating that effective policing and accountability can advance together and provide steady, responsible leadership for the county.
Congresswoman Chu also referenced the Monterey Park ballroom shooting three years ago, noting that law enforcement acted swiftly and contained the suspect the following afternoon, preventing further casualties. She further highlighted Sheriff Luna’s rapid response to public safety threats in the Eaton fire area following recent deadly wildfires in Los Angeles, where deputies were immediately deployed and maintained a presence to deter looting.
Emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election, Congresswoman Chu noted that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had previously experienced periods of instability. She stated that the choice facing voters is clear and urged support for Sheriff Luna to avoid returning to chaos and division, and to continue building a safer, fairer, and more accountable future for Los Angeles County.
Assemblymember Mike Fong praised Sheriff Luna as both a respected law enforcement leader and an outstanding public servant. He highlighted Sheriff Luna’s role in bringing renewed leadership, stability, and accountability to the department, which oversees tens of thousands of sworn personnel serving communities throughout the county. He expressed gratitude for the department’s service and called on the community to continue its support.
In his remarks, Sheriff Robert Luna thanked Congresswoman Judy Chu for her long-standing advocacy for public safety and crime victims, as well as Chairman Lynda Lin for organizing the fundraising dinner. He emphasized that the department’s progress over the past three years would not have been possible without strong community partnerships.
Sheriff Luna noted that upon taking office, he prioritized transforming departmental culture by moving away from an “us versus them” mindset and implementing meaningful reforms. These efforts have contributed to an overall crime reduction of more than 12 percent across Los Angeles County, along with increased accountability, transparency, and compliance with oversight agreements.
Regarding staffing, Sheriff Luna reported that recruitment has grown by approximately 35 to 37 percent, strengthening the department’s workforce. He encouraged individuals who value community-oriented and relationship-based policing to consider joining the LASD.
Sheriff Luna also outlined modernization initiatives, including the replacement of a nearly 40-year-old computer-aided dispatch system and the development of the LASD 2026 Mid-Term Strategic Plan, aimed at guiding the department’s future growth.
Addressing issues of public concern, Sheriff Luna discussed internal accountability, legal matters involving deputies, facility improvements, and the department-wide implementation of body-worn cameras. He noted that while some challenges have been resolved and others are ongoing, equipping all deputies with body cameras represents a significant step forward in transparency and public trust. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships with the community and continuing to earn public support.
Community leaders attending the event included co-chairs Chenghua Cai, Ganhua Lin, Lan Guo, Kit Leung, Dr. Huai-Chou Yang, Dr. Dennis Chan, and Dr. Su-Kin, as well as Walnut Vice Mayor Bill Wu, Xia Lu, attorney Peter Tang, Guojun Xuan, Wailon Lui, Sandra Tung, Shulan Zheng, Munson Kwok, attorney Alfred Ng, Linghua Chen, and Yajuan Chen.
