AMTV, Los Angeles, Aug 12- Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued a statement after joining Mayor Karen Bass in bringing back the Olympic flag to Los Angeles. This follows a four-day trip to Paris, France with elected leaders from Los Angeles County to examine strategies and logistics in preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028.
“This will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Games and each time, we have showcased our ability to handle large-scale international events. It will be no different in 2028. The return of the Olympics to Los Angeles is momentous not just for the region, but for the wider world, as it brings with it a mix of history, economic opportunity, cultural exchange, and inspiration. I do however understand that these events can also raise apprehensions, including exacerbating existing inequities, displacement pressures, or environmental harms, ” Hilda L. Solis said on the statement today.
“Recognizing these challenges early, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed several motions to ensure that the event is equitable and inclusive. Those efforts are underway, and we’ll continue to work with residents, philanthropic partners, and the private sector to realize community benefits such as uplifting local artists; hiring a local workforce, procuring from local and minority-owned businesses; furthering mobility, ensuring public safety, and advancing a robust sustainability plan. I am committed to leveraging our internal resources to build a legacy that benefits current and future generations, ” Hilda L. Solis said.
