AMTV/SHANGHAI, Jun 9 – Honduran President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento arrived in Shanghai on Friday to start a six-day state visit to China.
The Honduran president’s visit is historic, as it comes just two months after China and Honduras formally established diplomatic relations.
During the visit, the two heads of state will hold a meeting to jointly plan and chart the future development of China-Honduras relations.
China and Honduras have enjoyed a positive bilateral relationship in recent years with various cooperation results. To support Honduras’ energy sector, Power China constructed the Patuca III hydropower plant and the Arenal hydropower plant.
These two significant projects have alleviated the country’s power crisis and created over 3,000 job opportunities for local workers.
Honduras, as one of Central America’s top coffee growers, will benefit from China’s huge coffee consumption market.
China is also interested in buying Honduran beef and bananas, among other products.
