El Segundo, CA, Aug 10 – The City of El Segundo has selected Michael Allen as its new Development Services Director, after a highly competitive recruitment process. Mr. Allen brings extensive land use, zoning and community development experience working at several municipalities, including an international assignment providing urban planning and design support to government officials in the Mongolian capital city of Ulaanbaatar. His first day will be Monday, August 16.
“The City Council and Executive Team are excited to welcome Mr. Allen to the City’s leadership team,” said El Segundo City Manager Scott Mitnick. “His expertise and knowledge about land use and zoning will be a valuable asset to the organization, especially as the City continues to attract exciting new developments.”
Mr. Allen previously served as the Planning Manager for Culver City. During his tenure in Culver City, he has worked on similar land use projects currently taking place in El Segundo, and with some of the same developers and companies based in the city. Prior to that, he held the position of Community Development Manager for the City of Cudahy.

Mr. Allen holds a certification with the American Institute of Certified Planner. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in urban and regional planning from California Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Masters degree in organizational management and public administration from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa.
